School readiness assessments are comprehensive evaluations to measure a child's foundational, cognitive, and social-emotional skills. They help identify strengths and areas requiring support to ensure a successful transition into Prep.
These assessments are typically recommended if your child is emotionally sensitive, neurodivergent, born close to the school cutoff date, or if you are considering early entry into Prep. Further information about early school entry requirements can be found on the Queensland Department of Education website.
School Readiness Assessments
A School Readiness Assessment typically includes:
-
Parent interview to review your child’s educational and developmental history, and to ensure the school readiness assessment is appropriate.
-

-
A detailed report with tailored recommendations for your child.
-
Parent feedback session (30 minutes).
-
A Letter to the Queensland Department of Education to support early school entry – if eligible.
The process:
-
An initial consultation (1 x 50 minute parent only session) with the Psychologist during which they will obtain a detailed developmental history.

Where a School Readiness Assessment is deemed suitable and appropriate for your child, the School Readiness Assessment package includes:
-
A 2-hour assessment session for the child with the Psychologist (mornings preferred)
-
A tailored feedback letter written by the Psychologist, providing a summary of the results and recommendations.
