Fees and Rebates
Cognitive / Neuropsychological / Developmental Assessment Fees
All of our assessment options start with a parent-only intake session. In this session, the clinician will ask you questions around your child's abilities, challenges, and developmental history, and ask you to complete some questionnaires. This session will allow you to learn more about the assessment procedure, and ensure that we tailor the assessment sessions specifically to your child's individual needs.
Your child will then come in for their assessment sessions with the psychologist. The number and length of your child assessment sessions required will depend on the purpose of the assessment (e.g. ASD, ADHD, cognitive or neuropsychological testing).
We also include a parent-only feedback session at the end of all diagnostic / cognitive / neuropsychological assessments. In this session, the clinician will provide you with a copy of the written report and talk you through the assessment results and recommendations. You will also be able to ask questions.
If you are worried that your child has a neurodevelopmental disorder, we suggest families start by visiting their GP to talk through the service options. We also offer a single-session developmental Initial Screener to start you on the right track if you are unsure. The cost of this session is $200 for a 60 min session.
Families who are referred for an ASD assessment service by a paediatrician or child psychiatrist can access Medicare rebates through the Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) program. A rebate of $87.45 is available for up to four diagnostic or assessment sessions and can all be used on the same day if required.
All of our assessment options start with a intake session. In this session, the clinician will ask you questions around your abilities, challenges, and history, and ask you to complete some questionnaires. It is sometimes helpful for us to also obtain information from a close family member (e.g. partner, parent or adult child) or friend and you may be asked to bring someone with you who can provide us with additional information.
You will then come in for their assessment sessions with the psychologist. The number and length of the assessment sessions required will depend on the purpose of the assessment.

Wellbeing in Mind Psychological Services accepts the following referrals for assessments:
NDIS Assessments (Self and plan-managed participants only)
The cost of a therapy session is $200 per 50 min session with a Clinical Psychologist and $160 with a Registered Psychologist, but the out of pocket expense varies depending on what rebates might be available. For example, individuals with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from their doctor are able to receive a rebate of $128.40 per session for sessions with a Clinical Psychologist and $87.45 per session for sessions with a Registered Psychologist for up to 10 sessions a year.
Please note that Wellbeing in Mind is NOT a Bulk Billing practice. However, we understand that times are tough for many people right now. We do provide a sliding scale of fees for families who are experiencing financial difficulties. Please discuss your situation with your treating psychologist.
Medicare Rebates and Mental Health Treatment Plans
We are registered with Medicare and rebates are available for eligible clients. Upon visiting your GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist, they will make an assessment about whether you are eligible for Mental Health Treatment Plan, and may refer you to a psychologist. Eligible clients are entitled to up to:
10 individual sessions with a psychologist per calendar year; plus
10 group therapy sessions with a psychologist per calendar year
You will need to have your Mental Health Treatment Plan before you come to the first session with your Psychologist in order for your rebate to be processed. Your Medicare rebate will be processed electronically at the end of your consultation.
Other Government Initiatives
A range of government bodies offer mental health funding for those meeting eligibility requirements. Wellbeing in Mind Psychological Services are able to submit claims for treatment to the following organisations:
Private Health Insurance Rebates
If you have ‘extras’ private health insurance, you may be eligible to claim rebates for psychological sessions. Each insurance company is different, and rebates depend on extras cover schemes which can change over time, therefore we recommend that you check with your insurer about rebate amounts.
(Please note that the Item Number for an initial consultation with a Psychologist is 100, and subsequent consultations is 200.)
You will be required to pay the consultation fee in full on the day of your appointment and will then be sent a receipt via email. If you are eligible to claim private health insurance rebates for psychological sessions, you can then submit this receipt to your insurer to allow you to claim your rebate.
Individuals: Payment for the full consultation fee is due at the end of your appointment. EFTPOS facilities are available at the practice. At the same time, your Medicare rebate (if applicable) will be claimed and Medicare will deposit the corresponding rebate into your nominated bank account.
Organisations: An invoice will be issued, and payment will be required within 14 days of the invoice via electronic bank transfer, credit card (over the phone), or cheque. Payment details will be provided on the invoice.
When appointments are booked, the psychologist reserves the whole hour especially for you. Therefore the following cancellation policy is in place to allow us to offer the allocated time to another person who may be on a waiting list for that appointment.
We require 48 hours notice to reschedule or cancel a session without incurring any extra fees. A $50 fee will be charged for non-attendance or less than 24 hours cancellation of a session.
We understand that sometimes you may be unable to keep an appointment because of sudden illness or an unexpected personal emergency. If this happens to you, please contact us as soon as possible to explain the situation. You may call our office at anytime, even after hours, as we do have an answering service that allows you to leave a message.
