Marjan Mazaheri

Marjan has a bachelor’s degree in psychological science (Honours), an undergraduate degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis, and a diploma degree in early childhood education.  She is also trained as a lifeline crisis support worker. Her honours' thesis “Alexithymia and Binge Eating: Maladaptive Emotion Regulation Strategy or Deficient Interception?” was published in Appetite Journal in January 2022.

Prior to studying psychology, Marjan devoted her time doing volunteer work in different community centres, and providing relief and life skills support for refugee families and families in crisis. Earlier in her career she worked in aged care facilities as a volunteer and support worker.

 

Marjan has experience working with the elderly (including people diagnosed with dementia), children with developmental disorders (such as  Autism and ADHD), and individuals with disabilities.

Marjan uses a person-centred, strength-based approach, focusing on individuals' strengths (including personal strengths and social and community networks) in order to promote wellbeing. She is able to apply range of therapeutic techniques depending on her client’s needs and goals including: Cognitive-Behavioural therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT). She aims to provide a safe environment for the client to address the psychological challenges they encounter and collaborate with them to come up with a productive plan which assists them in meeting their goals and get the best out of the therapy sessions.
