Older Adults

Older adults and the elderly have their own set of circumstances, challenges, and risk factors related to their mental health and wellbeing that differ from other age groups.

  • Poor physical health/living with chronic illness​

  • Social isolation and loneliness​

  • Changing living arrangements​

  • Financial stresses

A challenge common to many older adults is the experience of grief and loss around their independence, working life, and mobility. Older adults might need help managing day-to-day activities that they used to do themselves. This can lead to frustration, anger, and family conflicts.

Grieving a life partner is often another reality of growing older.  Many also have to cope with chronic physical ailments, pains, and changes in their cognitive function, which could lead to feelings of stress and anxiety.

The psychologists at Wellbeing in Mind Psychological Services are experienced in providing care to older adults and to support them in improve their well-being. 

Assessments

Diagnostic & Cognitive assessments

Our psychologists have a special interest in neurodiversity and provide diagnostic assessments for autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in adulthood.

 

We also provide assessments for clients who are experiencing cognitive problems secondary to various conditions such as:​

  • Intellectual Disability

  • Acquired brain injury (e.g. Stroke, traumatic brain injury)​

  • Dementia (e.g. Alzheimer’s disease)​

  • Seizures​

  • Substance use​

  • Other mental health conditions​

This assessment aims to provide diagnostic clarification to both you and your treating team. In addition, this assessment provides insight into the functional impact of your difficulties, guiding treatment and intervention decisions.
